Which premium gas versus regular gas

We don’t need to waste another penny without good reason. We need to educate ourselves so that we don’t fall into the trap of wasting our hard earned money. We love our cars but we also need our money. There are many ways to waste money on your car and one of those ways is choosing premium over regular gasoline. Here’s why:

Majority of cars are designed to run on regular gas. Your owner’s manual will tell you what grade to use. If it says regular then use regular. You may have heard that premium gas is purer and contains detergents that cleanse your engine or it gives their car more mileage and power. This is simply not true. The only thing that premium gas accomplishes is taking your money and putting it in the pockets of the impoverished oil company executives.

Premium gas does not increase the performance of your cars engine because higher octane doesn't provide better performance for cars designed to run on regular gas. The octane rating between the fuel grades does not indicate how much power the fuel will deliver. All grades of gas contain roughly the same amount of heat energy.

A higher octane means that the fuel is less likely to cause your engine to “knock”. This occurs when fuel ignites before it should disrupting the engines operation but electronic knock sensors are now common and have nearly eliminated engine disruption. A grade higher than the maker of your car recommends is not necessary and is simply just a waste of money. It may seem like cents at fill up but over time it adds up and can cost you over $200 extra a year.
